HOW IT WORKS

CISCO AGGREGATION SERVICES ROUTER

The ASR is Cisco’s quintessential service provider and enterprise network level router. This truly ‘flagship’ device handles all incoming traffic to the StarHosting hosting space. The ASR combines high-performance with cutting-edge security methodologies, providing both lightning fast speeds and a solid layer of analysis & protection against any malicious threats.

CISCO 7200 ROUTER

The 7200 is a tried and true veteran- a Cisco router with quite similar capabilities. Our 7200 is deployed to ensure complete redundancy within our entire cloud. In the unlikely event that the primary ASR encounters any difficulties the 7200 automatically takes over without a single blip to overall services. As soon as the primary ASR is brought back online the 7200 resumes its stand-by status at our network perimeter.

MANAGEMENT

The management level of our cloud is comprised of Cisco 37XX series switches and serves to separate administrative and back-end traffic from our public network. This ensures ultimate security and safety as access to all administrative and core functions of the cloud is limited via hardware to only StarHosting administrators.

CORE

The core provides the brains of the cloud solution. This DELL solution is loaded with quad xeon 2.4GHZ processors, 36GB of memory, and SSD drives throughout. Utilizing OnApp, the core manages the configuration within the cloud, constantly directing the hypervisors for the most efficient usage of all the resources contained within the solution. All StarHosting cloud solutions are configured within the core and images of the overall configuration are backed up regularly on a dedicated backup SAN storage device in addition to drives attached to the core itself.

PUBLIC

Once past the Cisco ASR, all public traffic is directed through our Cisco 3750 which manages all bandwidth heading to and from the StarHosting cloud footprint. This solution includes separate gigabit ethernet cards, and a completely separate network to provide maximum speed and reliability.

HYPERVISORS

Our Hypervisors are tremendously robust DELL built solutions which contain the CPU cores and memory that our cloud solutions utilize. The resources of the hypervisors are distributed by the OnApp core and are elastically allocated and optimized for each individual cloud as the overall environment changes. Consider the Hypervisors the heavy-lifting, computing portion of the overall cloud.

SAN

Our two standalone SANs, standing for storage area network, provide an ultra-secure data warehouse for our cloud. Like much of the rest of the solution, our SAN deployments are custom built for us by DELL and are the cornerstones of our entire solution. Much like a hard drive on a standalone webserver, every cloud solution is assigned storage resources delegated from the SAN, but unlike an individual hard drive these datastores possess the added benefit of vastly enhanced speed, reliability, and redundancy. Our SAN utilizes RAID 6 which combines the efficiency benefits of RAID 0 with the crucial redundancy of RAID 5.

TAURON

Our primary SAN and provides the datastores for each cloud deployment on our network.

AERILON

A separate SAN used to provide snapshot backup offerings for each deployment while also maintaining secondary backups of our core configurations and other administrative data.

BACKUP

Backup is an element you won’t see on every cloud solution out there. We have deployed a separate standalone SAN for the singular purpose of housing snapshot backup images for customers who choose to utilize this option. By its very nature a cloud hosting footprint is designed in a way to ensure complete redundancy and protect against data loss or downtime, though it cannot overcome human error. We offer a snapshot backup option which duplicates all the data contained within your individual cloud deployment to our backup SAN twice weekly. In the event that your data is compromised or an accidental error creates a point of no return, customers utilizing this backup service can simply step back to the most recent image of the cloud server in question.
